FINISHED PRODUCT

This is the finished piece, performed by me on piano and voice. The accompanying video includes the photos from my venture to Oak Hill Cemetery and helps to elucidate the ideas that inspired the tone and words.

Text:

I hear music in these stones;

The lengthening sun cuts winter's chill;

The crocus bloom pokes through the earth;

white wings of death bring life anew.

Spirits walk within these walls;

Their timeless wisdom speaks to me.

The sunlight streams through golden glass;

A place to hold their memory.

Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears;

To fall asleep is not to die.

When I shall go to the vast unknown,

Our thoughts like songs between us flow.

I hear music in these stones,

The weight of those whose life has past.

I wander through the sleepers' rest, their quiet presence here with me.

Scrolling

This is a screen recording of the music composition program I use (Musescore). It highlights the notes as they sound, which is perfect for connecting sheet music with sound.

SATB Choir Version

This was the original version of the piece. Due to extenuating circumstances of COVID-19, working with an actual choir was out of the question. I still hope to have it performed someday.
